Financial Aid for International Students

Note: The information presented below applies to students who will enter the United States as non-immigrants. Those with U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status should apply for financial aid and scholarships as U.S. students.

BECAUSE OF OUR COMMITMENT to international educational exchange and our desire to provide educational opportunity to academically talented students from around the world, Ohio Wesleyan University provides financial assistance to international students.

There are two kinds of awards: Merit based awards (Presidential, Trustee, and Faculty) and need based aid award. If you receive a Merit Scholarship, you are automatically entitled to full participation in the University's honors program. Awards are based on both financial need and academic accomplishment.

Applying for Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid, you must present an outstanding academic record, high standardized test scores, and a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (213 on the computer-based test or 80 on the Internet-based test) or at least a 7 on the IELTS. We evaluate your record and accomplishments in competition with other applicants for scholarship awards. Students with outstanding academic credentials may, in addition to receiving an award, be designated as honors students.  Most of our financial awards are merit based. Need based aid depends on availability of funds.

Deadline for Financial Aid Application

February 1 is the deadline for applying for financial aid, but we encourage you to apply early. Competition for the larger awards is intense.

We will accept applications after the deadline, but priority consideration will be given to applicants who meet the deadline. We begin making admission decisions as early as December, and the majority of our letters offering admission are sent electronically starting in January. If you are admitted and choose to enroll at Ohio Wesleyan, you will need to remit a US $400 non-refundable enrollment deposit by May 1 to secure your admission and financial award.  We cannot guarantee the scholarship award if the tuition deposit is made after May 1.

The amount of financial aid will be determined at the time when admission is offered to the applicant.
