Annual Expenses

UNIVERSITY FEES are listed below, in U.S. dollars, for the 2008-09 academic year (late August to early May). Our primary concern is to provide a superior teaching and learning environment for all of our students, in the most cost-effective manner possible. The basic fees at Ohio Wesleyan University are comparable to those at institutions of similar size and reputation.

Our general fees for 2008-2009 are as follows (all figures are in U.S. Dollars):

  • Tuition is $33,240
  • Information technology fee is $240
  • Student activity fee is $220
  • Standard room is $4,120
  • Average board is $4,150
  • Required international student health insurance is $900 (estimated)
  • The total average base annual cost for international students is $41,970*

F-1 and J-1 students will need to certify that they have financial support for their stay in the United States before we can issue Form I-20 or Form IAP-66 (Certificate of Eligibility for a visa).

Students who do not return home in the summer should budget approximately $2,000 for living expenses from early May to late August. Students who choose to enroll in summer school should budget an additional $3,000.

Special fees are charged for chemistry labs ($10 per course), studio art courses ($40, lab fees, and $75, software fees, per semester), physical education activity courses ($50 to $270 per course), student teaching ($200), off-campus study ($200), and private music lessons for students not seeking the Bachelor of Music degree (varies). Other special fees may be charged for specific academic or extracurricular activities

Our standard room fee is based on double occupancy in a residence hall. Single rooms, when available, cost $4,500 per year or $2,250 per semester—versus $4,120 per year or $2,060 per semester for regular rooms. To find out more about housing options, go to Residential Life.

Board involves a flexible program for dining. To find out more about meal plan options, go to Dining Services.

Note: Additional student-controlled expenses are estimated at the following levels when calculating a student's total cost of education: Books and supplies ($1,000 per year) may be charged at the OWU Bookstore to MasterCard, Visa, or American Express. Personal/living expenses vary greatly.  Our estimated cost for 2008-2009, including projected personal expenses, is $44,790.  Please see the Instructions for the Certification of Finances for more information.  Transportation costs are not included in these figures.
